FIMI has launched a new entry-level drone. Don’t you know his name? FIMI is a manufacturer of Xiaomi 4K drones, Xiaomi Mitu drones and Xiaomi action cameras. The new one doesn’t seem to have the Mi logo, but is often referred to as the Xiaomi FIMI A3 drone. This is their new drone that comes closest to the DJI Mavic Mini. In this article, we compare the specifications and features of the DJI Mavic Mini and Xiaomi Fimi A3 drones.
The Xiaomi FIMI A3 is a medium-sized drone with dimensions of 28.5 * 22.9 * 69 cm and a diagonal of 32.3 cm. This is not a heavy drone weighing nearly 600 g, so you can travel comfortably. It would make a great travel drone if it could be folded, which makes it compact and easier to pack. However, unlike other drone brands, the FIMI A3 is not foldable. This is the only minor drawback in terms of design. You can take it with you when you travel, but it requires luggage space.
With that in mind, this is a well-crafted drone that is made of high-quality plastic and features a streamlined design for greater aerodynamic efficiency. It comes with a small brushless motor that gives the drone more power and a top speed of 40 mph, which is fast enough for a non-racing drone.
The Mavic Mini is specially designed to weigh less than 250 grams, which can pass registration with aviation authorities in the United States and Australia. The Mavic Mini is foldable, with arms that fold to change with some springy maneuverability.
The A3 is equipped with an HD camera powered by a Sony CMOS sensor and Ambarella ISP processor. You can shoot video at 25 and 35 fps, which isn’t the best for a drone, but it’s not bad either. You will have fun taking pictures with the 8MP camera.
The camera is stabilized by a two-axis cardan axis driven by a machine. It works in combination with electronic 3-axis image stabilization. This makes videos and photos quite smooth and stable. High-quality video can be recorded in two ways – one via the drone’s DVR or two via remote control. You won’t have any problems even in low light conditions as the ISO range for videos varies between 100 and 3200.
The DJI Mavic Mini shoots 2.7K video at 30fps or 1080p video at 60fps. Its 1/2.3-inch sensor can also shoot 12MP images in several modes including prime position mode, sports mode for higher speeds, and CineSmooth mode which extends crash times and makes photos smoother and slower to shoot.
The A3 controller is huge but very comfortable. The 4.3-inch LCD takes center stage and makes the FPV experience much better. Unlike other drones that need to be connected to a smartphone or tablet for the best experience, with this drone you don’t have to.
The only thing the A3 could improve is that it’s an LCD instead of a touchscreen. But despite this fact, the screen works very well.
The controls are simple and clear. You can broadcast live recordings with one antenna and use the other for control. The range is about 1km, which is not bad at all.
With the remote control you can set the camera, GPS and flight mode, among others. Another great feature of this controller is that you can plug in VR headphones and save micro SD data, which increases the flexibility of the controller.
Unlike some other drones, the DJI Mavic Mini doesn’t include a screen; instead, it’s expanded to accommodate smartphones with Android or iOS. The joystick with screws is placed on the body so that the controller has a low profile when folded and has a traditional feel when unfolded.
The A3 has a total flight time of about 15 minutes. If you really want to push it forward, you can potentially have up to 18 minutes of flight time while taking stunning aerial photos. Flight time is affected by the settings you use and whether you record video or not.
It is powered by a rechargeable 2000 mAh lipo battery. It takes about five hours to fully charge the battery the first time. If you want to extend your flight time, getting a replacement battery is the best option.
The Mini itself has a battery capacity of 2,400 mAh with a specified flight time of 30 minutes, depending on the environment and usage. We found this for the money, although flying mostly saves a few minutes of flight time in sport mode.
I really like the FIMI A3 and DJI Mavic Mini, they are relatively inexpensive unmanned aerial vehicles and are suitable for everyone. The DJI Mavic camera is the best feature of this drone, you can take some high quality videos and even fly with the help of VR headphones and get a more immersive flight.
