Summery: The three new functions are Waypoints, Follow Me and Points of Interest respectively.
A while ago, there is a rumor that DJI will upgrade the firmware of Phantom 3 and increase some new functions. Now, it has been proven true. This company announced the upgrade of Phantom 3’s firmware and released the newly-added functions including automatic flight.
DJI named the upgraded new functions Intelligent Flight Mode. But at present, these function are only compatible with Phantom 3 Professional/ Advanced/ Standard, and some of them also support to work with Inspire 1’s camera.
Specifically, this time, the Phantom 3 mainly adds three new functions: Waypoints, Follow Me and Points of Interest.
Under Waypoints mode, the drone is able to record route and when return, it will automatically fly along the recorded route. In this way, users can just focus on controlling the camera to take good pictures or videos. Besides, users are allowed to keep the favorite routes in the system. Automatic speed adjustment is also available.
If you start the Follow Me mode, the drone will be by your side all the time, just like your shadow. No matter where you go, it will be after you. What’s more, during the whole following, the drone is under automatic flight status, and always keeps the camera facing you, just like your private photographer. But this function is not compatible with Inspire 1.
While the Points of Interest is able to adjust the camera accurately focus on someone or something on the ground, and then rotate roundly, so the camera can shoot from different angles for the targeted objective. ( both Phantom 3 and Inspire 1)
DJI pointed out that these intelligent flight modes can be used only when the GPS signal around is strong. Meanwhile, for safety, even though the drone is under automatic flight mode, users should still hole the remote controller on hands to prevent the happening of unexpected accident.
