In the early August, DJI suddenly released a new product of Phantom 3 series- Phantom 3 Standard. As its name implies, it is lower- grade than the advanced and professional versions. But what’s surprising is that it offers high image quality up to 2.7K@30fps, long flight time of 25 minutes, which has surpassed the Phantom 3 Advanced and make the aerial players who hesitate to buy Phantom 3 series excited. Now, we get the test sample and going to show you the test result in the followings.
First of all, let’s enjoy some pictures
Because this is the test sample, the package mainly includes drone, remote controller, propellers and charger. While the final retail version will also offer instructions, pasters, tools and so on.
There are no obvious differences on appearances compared with advanced and professional versions. The gimbal has a rigger to protect during transportation.
There is a silver logo on the fuselage to tell people that this is the standard version. In the below is a USB port used for debugging and refreshing firmwares.
DJI Phantom 3 Standard’s camera is larger than Phantom 2 Vision+ while similar with advanced. However, it doesn’t use the the module applied on advanced, whose storage card is inserted inside the camera, while adopts advanced and professional’s module with the card plugged in the gimbal.
It offers a standard SanDisk 8GB Micro SD card.
Pictures of the side and back
In the aspect of power system, DJI Phantom 3 Standard integrated the same motor and ESC with Advanced and Professional, which is the upgraded version of Phantom 2, offering faster response and longer flight time.
The adopted gimbal is extremely light with camera, so the flight time is definitely longer. And it doesn’t equip with visual orientation system, reducing cost as well as weight.
The employed battery remains the same with Advanced- 15.2V smart Li-Po battery with large capacity of 68WH.
Well, the remote controller has a little disappointing, which is same with 2Vision+ and much worse than Advanced and Professional’s.
It connects with phones via WIFI repeater. It is estimated that the image transmission is not implemented through Light Bridge on the Advanced and Professional, it is most probably the upgraded version of 2 Vision+ because 3 Standard supports transmission within 1km. Is the transmission effect is good? Weather it can really reach even surpass i km? Let’s keep eyes on it.
Look! There is only one hand wheel at the top left corner used to control the pitching of gimbal. Besides, the switches of flight mode and posture mode are located at the same places.
The remote controller is able to hold a phone. It is obvious that it can load a iPad, 5-inch phones are the largest size it can bear, and doesn’t support a sunshade.
This remote controller only comes with a mini USB port on the bottom and without any other extra ports.
The charger is in standard configurations with 17.4 output. The charging speed is fast while it is heat.
Propellers keep the same with Advanced- DJI 9450
The whole family
Because DJI Phantom 3 Standard is not compatible with DJI GO APP, we are not allowed to monitor and shoot via phone. Meanwhile, the test about shooting effect, transmission effect and distance can’t be done unless the APP is upgraded.
I had a simple try with this Standard out of box, and the flight experience can be summarized into two points: first, the handling feeling is totally the same with Professional, which means that it inherits the power system of Professional. Secondly, the fuselage excludes visual orientation system, the gimbal and camera are also lightened, making the machine more flexible, so the flight time is extended.
In conclusion, some players think that this is the upgraded version of 2Vision+, but i don’t think so. The first reason is that the power system is consistent with Advanced. Secondly, although the remote controller looks same with 2 Vision+, the image transmission is boosted to 720P, the remote distance is also extended to 1 km. In addition, this equipped camera is much larger, and the image quality is enhanced a lot. Therefore, compared with Advanced, DJI Phantom 3 Standard is without visual orientation system and dual mode positioning, but the whole structure and technologies are simplified on the basis of Advanced, which is still more advanced than other aircraft.
