Disassembling the DJI Phantom 3 video camera

If you are interested in something, you always wish to know them inside and out.Comparing with using a good product, we usually gain much more pleasure from disassembling them. If you agree with me, then you are one of the Geek family.
Different from simple disassembling, we are sincere and admiring when we disassemble a product and explore its history.Today we show our great respect to DJI’s engineers with the article. Thank you for creating such a delicate artwork.
This is an AIO on DJI Phantom 3, made up of a 4K camera and 3-axis gimbal.
From the top you can see a multi-blade micro fan, for heat dissipation of video processing chip.
Fantastic industrial design, looks perfect from all sides.
Taking off the outermost protecting board, We will see the efforts from all considerate details.
Even the decoration cover of micro fan is decently designed.
The gimbal is made of aluminum alloy, accompany with some injection molded parts.
Just from the appearance, we can hardly tell between metal and plastic.
Thanks to the beautiful processing craft, they look just the same in color and texture!
Take off the back board, we can see the main circuit board of the gimbal.
Separate the main circuit and the gimbal
Look at the fine-grained metal contact , which stores control signal of the gimbal and data of the camera.
Power wire of the fan is soldered to the main board.
At the back of control circuit board lies the major image processing module.
Electromagnetic shielding and heat conducting module are equipped on the metal baseboard.
The conductive rubber is equipped on the contact shielding ring of the circuit. When the circuit is fixed, it work as a electromagnetic shielding module.
How considerate the details are!
The image processing chip adopted by the 4K camera
The control circuit of the roll axis and The pitch axis
You may wonder what’s inside the 4K camera.
Well obviously, there are a lens and a circuit board inside.
There are optical sensor and gimbal-like sensor(3-axis gyroscope) on the circuit board.
That’s all for today’s article. The gimbal and camera system of Phantom 3 is designed appropriate and decent, which impress us a lot.
The module is applied to Phantom 3 aerial aircraft. Wanna try this new module? Just get an DJI Phantom 3 and enjoy yourself.

Shame it can’t hold a level horizon.
What is the model of the 4k sensor used? The specs I’ve found online only say “Sony EXMOR 1/2.3”, but I’m curious if you guys actually found the model #.
please let us know how we can use the camera on a different aircraft but the DJI phantom!
how much does the whole assembly weigh? Can the phantom fly normal without it? Thanks.
Great information. Is the piece of glass that covers/protects (filters?) the lens replaceable without buying the whole camera?
